Our salt lamps and salt products come directly from the Himalayas. Salt crystals are formed by nature and are millions of years old. Our beautiful salt lamps and salt products are painstakingly dug out from the Himalayan mountains by hand instead of blast mined.

The salt is carried down the mountains the old-fashioned way - loaded into carts and hauled downhill by donkey. It's a family business that cares about the land and its employees.

Once the salt is collected, it's handcrafted into the quality products we carry. By its very nature, each piece we sell is unique and one of a kind. We like to say they are like snowflakes. You never know exactly how beautiful it's going to be until you open the box and take it out.

Therefore, it's important to note, when you order a lamp from us, it may be similar to what is pictured on our website but we cannot guarantee it will look or weigh exactly the same as what we have pictured. But you can be assured that no one else will have a beautiful salt lamp exactly like yours!

What are Salt Lamps for?

We live in a very polluted world! In our technology driven world, positive ions are generated by electronics such as computer monitors, cell phones, televisions and radios. Cigarette smoke, cars, factories and microwave ovens and other such sources also pollute our air with ozone and positive ions.

Salt has natural minerals and trace elements. The salt lamps work by absorbing moisture from the air and then evaporating it. The minerals in the salt then cause an ion emission that helps to clean the air.

Salt crystal lamps create an environment rich in negative ions which has a wonderfully positive effect on your physical, emotional, mental and even spiritual health.

How to take care of your salt lamp:

Taking care of your salt lamp is very easy. The only thing you'll need to replace is occasionally the bulb. Depending upon which lamp you purchase, your lamp will take either a 15 watt (smaller lamps) to a 25 watt (common for the bigger lamps) up to a 40 or 60 watt (for the large lamps) bulb. They are called "candelabra base" bulbs. Clear bulbs can be found at WalMart, Home Depot, Lowes and we've even found them at the dollar stores. Colored bulbs can be purchased at specialty light bulb stores such as "Light Bulbs Unlimited" or at ceiling fan or lamp stores. Each lamp is lit with a cord (approx. 6 foot) that provides an on/off switch.

We haven't noticed our salt lamps to get dusty and we believe it is because they repel dust as they generate negative ions. But if you see a need to dust your salt lamp, simply wring out a damp towel and wipe the lamp when it is on so that it dries quickly and thoroughly. If you have the fire bowl salt lamp, you can use a can of compressed, air normally used on computer keyboards, to dust off the rocks sitting in the bowl.

Since salt lamps attract moisture from the atmosphere, you'll want to be careful when making a salt lamp purchase and consider their construction. All of our salt lamps are attached to onyx bases and our smaller lamps sit on metal bases. We think these two type bases are a much better choice than wood bases which could, over time, warp and crack.

It is important to keep your lamp lit as much as possible. The heat from the bulb keeps your lamp beautiful and intact for years and years. If you plan to leave your lamp unlit for an extended period of time, we recommend you wrap it in saran wrap to protect it from moisture.
